Description

Community Development and Events Officer – Kaikōura District Council

Part-time Permanent | 25 – 30 hours per week.

Make every event and initiative count!

Kaikōura District Council is seeking a capable and community-minded Community Development and Events Officer to join our team in a permanent part-time role of 25–30 hours per week.

This is a rewarding opportunity to help shape and support events, projects, and initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing, connection, and participation across Kaikōura.  In this varied role, you will work closely with community groups, stakeholders, elected members, and Council staff to coordinate events, support local initiatives, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the community is well informed and engaged.

Due to the nature of this role, there may be some events that fall outside business hours or during weekends, so the successful incumbent will need to be willing and able to coordinate and attend those events that may fall outside business hours.

If you enjoy building strong relationships, juggling a diverse workload, and making a visible difference in your local community, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Coordinate and support a range of community and civic events, including working with local organisers and community groups.
  • Assist with the planning, delivery, and monitoring of community development initiatives and projects.
  • Support the Youth Council and help strengthen youth participation and engagement in local decision-making.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community organisations, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Facilitate community engagement activities, forums, and meetings to support local participation and collaboration.
  • Prepare reports, meeting documentation, funding applications, and other written materials to a high standard.
  • Contribute to newsletters, public information, and other communication channels to keep the community informed.
  • Monitor budgets, track progress, and help ensure initiatives are delivered effectively and responsibly.

Why join us

At Kaikōura District Council, we are committed to delivering excellent service and supporting strong, connected communities. This role offers the chance to contribute to meaningful local outcomes while working in a collaborative environment that values community relationships, continuous improvement, and making a difference.

If you are passionate about community connection, thrive in a varied role, and are ready to help deliver initiatives that matter to Kaikōura, we encourage you to apply.
