About the role

We are looking for an experienced Housekeeping Supervisor to join the team at Hāpuku Lodge and Treehouses in Kaikōura, Canterbury, starting in September 2026. This is a full-time position (minimum 30 hours/week) based at our beautiful property, where you will coordinate the daily housekeeping team to deliver a professional, seamless and efficient guest experience across all housekeeping duties. This role is key to our operations, ensuring consistent high-quality service and a memorable guest experience contributing to the unique hospitality offering that defines our luxury lodge.

Your duties will include:

  • To take responsibility for the daily housekeeping tasks prioritising guest needs and requests
  • To ensure that all common areas of the Lodge are always ready for guest use, that they are well maintained and cleaned to Lodge standards
  • To assist, manage and coordinate the housekeeping team ensuring the rooms are ready on time
  • To lead daily team briefings and handovers confidently
  • To investigate & resolve any housekeeping related complaints on shift, timely & effectively
  • Train staff, demonstrating proper techniques and standards
  • Supervise housekeeping staff on shift and providing ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Complete room checks, pro-actively addressing any issues
  • Support and maintain deep clean schedules
  • Liaise with other departments regarding guest bookings, special requirements and additional cleaning tasks (i.e window cleaning)
  • To ensure our on-site laundry is kept organised and efficiently managed throughout the shift
  • Manage linen, cleaning supplies & equipment coordinating repairs, replacement or stock levels as needed
  • Ensure daily housekeeping site security procedures are followed
  • Following Health & Safety guidelines & policies
  • Ensure all equipment and work environments are well maintained, safe & operational
  • Report any lost property, hazards or maintenance in a timely & accurate manner
  • Maintain professional communication, discretion and integrity at all times
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across other departments, building positive, collaborative relationships with our wider Lodge team

Skills or Qualifications Required

What we're looking for:

  • 2 years professional cleaning or housekeeping experience, ideally in a luxury environment
  • 1 year supervisor/team leader experience, ideally within a hotel or resort
  • Confident in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience with reservation / property management systems
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, (good English communication for dealing with both team and guests)
  • Good ability to problem solve and make well-balanced decisions
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time-management skills
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including weekends and public holidays
  • Professional presentation and physically fit
  • Passion for showcasing our local region and delivering memorable guest experiences

Career Development

This role is currently fixed term from September 2026 to April 2027, however for the right candidate may develop into a permanent role.
